Clay Pigeon Shooting Argyll Scotland

Tove, David and their staff offer TREC training, riding lessons, cross country training and flatwork instruction for riders on their own horses at the Brenfield Estate riding complex.

Brenfield is also a popular Horses Welcome location. Many horse owners visit Brenfield each year with their horses for a riding holiday in the highlands. Brenfield staff are available for hire as guides and their knowledge of the Argyll area from horseback is second to none.

Live pigeon shooting/competitions were made illegal in the UK in 1921 and clay pigeon shooting quickly emerged as a replacement. It uses a 'Trap' which is purpose made to launch clay pigeons into the air which are then shot with the shotgun.

David Hay-Thorburn and his team are accomplished professionals with a friendly no pressure teaching style which brings out the best in their clients. They start with a session of one-to-one tuition on how to hold, sight and fire the gun. As the clays start to hurtle out of the trap you squeeze the trigger – there's a bang – and with a few corrections your soon smashing clay pigeons.

Clay pigeon shooting is enjoyed by persons of any age, it is indeed one of the few sports that both men and women can participate in, on an equal basis. Age, fitness & ability at this level does not have a great impact on your final scores. You simply need to be able to hold the weight of the shotgun.
